Wall Mounted Air Conditioning Installation in Kent

A wall mounted split system puts a slim indoor unit high on the wall and connects it to an outdoor unit outside. It is the system we fit most often in Kent homes and small businesses, because it leaves the floor clear and is quick to install. This guide covers where the units should go, how they connect and which models we offer.

Is a wall mounted air conditioner the best choice for one room?

For most single rooms, yes:

  • Quick to fit. Most single rooms are finished in a day, with no ceiling or floor work.
  • Even airflow. Mounted high, the unit spreads air across the room; the louvres let you direct it away from beds and desks.
  • Best value. It is usually the lowest fitted price of any unit type for the same capacity.
  • Heating too. As a heat pump, it warms the room efficiently in winter.

If there is no suitable high wall, a floor standing unit may suit better. Larger open plan business spaces often suit a ceiling cassette.

Where is the best place to put a wall mounted air conditioner?

Position makes a real difference to comfort. We look for a wall that:

  • Lets air travel along the length of the room, rather than into a corner or straight onto a bed, sofa or desk.
  • Has the clearance above and to each side that the manufacturer specifies, so the unit can breathe and be serviced.
  • Is an outside wall, ideally, which keeps the pipework short and neat.
  • Lets the condensate drain fall naturally to the outside. Where it cannot, a small pump can be fitted.
  • Keeps the unit away from direct sun and heat sources such as radiators or televisions, which can confuse its sensor.

Where should the outdoor unit go?

The outdoor unit needs free airflow and space for an engineer to work on it. We usually recommend a ground level position on anti vibration feet or a slab, at the back or side of the property. Ground level is easier and safer to service, and avoids the extra cost of working at height.

Wall brackets are an option where the wall, access and clearances allow. A high position needs access equipment, which our installation costs guide explains, and any special access is agreed in your final quote.

What if I live near the sea?

In seafront towns such as Margate, Ramsgate, Broadstairs, Herne Bay, Whitstable, Deal and Folkestone, salty air corrodes outdoor units faster. We site units out of the direct sea wind where possible, and regular servicing, including cleaning the outdoor coil, matters more on the coast.

How is a wall mounted air conditioner connected?

Two insulated copper pipes carry refrigerant between the units, alongside a control cable and a drain. They usually pass through one hole of around 65mm in the wall behind the indoor unit, then run neatly in trunking outside to the outdoor unit. The longer and more complicated the route, the more the installation costs, which is why our quote asks about pipe distance. Every route must also stay within the manufacturer's limits.

Running pipework through an internal wall adds nothing on its own. If the drain cannot fall to the outside, a condensate pump is confirmed in your final quote.

Which wall mounted air conditioners do you install?

Our online quote offers four ranges, each in several capacities:

  • Daikin Sensira.
  • Bosch Climate 3200i.
  • Immergas Thor.
  • Haier Revive.

The right capacity depends on your room. Our guide to choosing the right size explains how it is worked out, or let the online quote suggest suitable units for each room. For how the four ranges compare, see our guide to the best permanent air conditioning units for 2026.

Frequently asked questions

Will I see the pipes?

Inside the room, usually not. When the outdoor unit is directly behind the indoor unit, the pipes go straight through the wall. Longer runs inside are finished in neat white trunking.

Does a wall mounted air conditioner need a new electrical circuit?

Sometimes. It depends on the equipment, the manufacturer's instructions and the capacity of your existing wiring. Our standard package includes a straightforward dedicated circuit where needed, and the installation check confirms the work before you accept your final quote.

Can one wall unit cool a whole house?

No. One unit is designed for one room or open plan space. For several rooms, see multi room systems.
