Air Conditioning Installation Costs in Kent
The cost of installing air conditioning depends on far more than the unit itself. This guide sets out our starting prices, whether VAT applies, what a fair installed price should include and the extras that can change it, so you can compare quotes with confidence.

How much does air conditioning installation cost in Kent?
Our current starting prices for supply and installation are:
| System | Starting price |
|---|---|
| One room at home, wall mounted | From £2,149 |
| Two rooms at home, one shared outdoor unit | From £3,449 |
| Three rooms at home, one shared outdoor unit | From £4,749 |
| One area in a business, wall mounted | From £2,149 |
| Floor standing or ceiling cassette | Quoted individually |
Tovan is not VAT registered, so there is no VAT to add to these prices. Our £100 off offer, for installs completed by 31 March 2027, is already taken off, so do not deduct it again. Prices rise with capacity, so a large living room needing a 5kW or 7kW unit costs more than a small bedroom. Our online quote shows every suitable option for your rooms side by side.
All models are subject to availability. We confirm your exact unit and its stock at your installation check, and we'd only offer an equivalent heat and cool model if you agree in writing.
Is there VAT on air conditioning installation?
Not on our prices. Tovan is not VAT registered, so there is no VAT to add. If you are comparing quotes from VAT registered installers, it depends on the property and the installation: eligible air source heat pump installations in homes currently qualify for 0% VAT until 31 March 2027, HMRC guidance sets 5% from 1 April 2027, and business installations normally carry 20% VAT. Read HMRC VAT Notice 708/6.

What should an air conditioning installation price include?
When you compare quotes, check that each one includes:
- The indoor and outdoor units, with exact model names.
- Refrigerant pipework, insulation, the control cable and the condensate drain.
- Wall brackets, or ground mounting on anti vibration feet.
- The electrical connection, an outdoor isolator switch and any new circuit needed.
- Pressure testing, vacuuming and commissioning of the refrigerant system.
- Trunking to finish the pipework neatly inside and out.
- VAT shown clearly, and the warranty terms in writing.
Our standard package includes the electrical connection and outdoor isolator, with a straightforward dedicated circuit of up to 5 metres where needed. Anything beyond that, such as consumer unit alterations, is confirmed in your final quote.
What extras can increase the cost?
These are the allowances our online quote uses:
| Item | When it applies | Price change |
|---|---|---|
| Longer pipe route | For each room, beyond 5 metres between the indoor and outdoor units | +£200 per extra 5 metres, up to 25 metres |
| Fuse board distance | Fuse board on the same side, the other side or a different floor of the property | +£60, +£120 or +£180 |
| High level outdoor unit | Outdoor unit on wall brackets above head height | +£120 per outdoor unit |
| Condensate pump | Only when the drain cannot fall naturally to the outside | +£165 per unit, confirmed in your final quote |
| Internal wall | Running pipework through an internal wall | No extra charge |
Scaffolding, specialist access or work outside these allowances is agreed before you pay anything. Longer routes must also stay within the equipment's technical limits.
How do I compare quotes fairly?
Check that each quote names the same indoor and outdoor models and says whether electrics, VAT and servicing are included. Our article Why are two air conditioning installation quotes so different? walks through every point to check before you choose.
When do I pay for air conditioning installation?
You receive your final quote after our installation check, before paying anything. A 20% deposit secures the agreed date, and the balance (the remaining 80%) is due by 3pm on the working day before your installation (by 3pm Friday for a Monday installation). All payments are made to Tovan Ltd only. Our installation guide shows every step.
