Is One Air Conditioner Enough for a Small Office or Salon?
One unit may serve a suitable open room, but the number of units cannot be decided from floor area alone. A quiet office, busy salon and shop with a frequently opened door can impose very different demands.

Quick answer
Plan cooling around people, equipment, doors and working patterns rather than treating every commercial room like a spare bedroom.
What information changes a business cooling assessment?
Prepare a short account of the busiest part of a normal day: how many people are present, which equipment operates, where direct sunlight enters and how often external doors open. Mark separate rooms and doors normally kept closed. A room that is comfortable at opening time may behave differently during a fully booked afternoon.
For a salon, identify dryers and other equipment that produces heat and runs at the same time. For an office, note occupied desks, screens and meeting room peaks. Do not rely on the cooling requirement for an empty room.
Can one unit cool around corners and through doorways in my office or salon?
It may move some air beyond its immediate space, but that is different from controlling the temperature in separate occupied rooms. Ask the designer to show the intended airflow path and the conditions assumed when calculating capacity.
If clients need privacy or doors must remain closed, treat those spaces explicitly in the design. Adding a larger unit to reception does not establish that a back treatment room will remain comfortable.
Is a shared outdoor system always the simplest option?
It can reduce the number of outdoor positions, but every indoor unit still needs its own planned route and drainage. Ask how much output is available when the rooms operate together and what happens if one shared component fails.
Also discuss operating modes. A conventional reversible multi split generally cannot heat one room while cooling another simultaneously. Businesses with contrasting loads should raise that requirement before choosing a shared system. Our multi room guide explains the layout choices.
Which type of indoor unit will disrupt my business least?
A wall mounted system may suit a private office or compact salon. Ceiling cassettes need suitable ceiling space and service access, while low wall units need clear space around furniture. Ask where maintenance will take place without moving stock, desks or treatment equipment.
Tovan’s wall mounted range includes Bosch Climate 3200i, Daikin Sensira, Immergas THOR and Haier Revive Plus options. Shared systems need compatible combinations; do not assume the single room outdoor unit or product range transfers unchanged.
Does air conditioning meet my fresh air requirements?
Standard split AC does not replace ventilation. HSE guidance addresses comfortable workplace temperatures and clean fresh air; there is no universal maximum working temperature. Cooling, ventilation and any process extraction need to be considered separately.
What should I agree before installation?
Agree the exact equipment, routes, electrical work, final price, working hours and access in writing, and check landlord consent where applicable. Our pages for offices, shops and salons and barbers cover planning for each type of business. Supported wall mounted arrangements can start with an online estimate, or contact Tovan with a layout and operating schedule.
